Talal Awad Media Talal Awad, restaurant and brand photography in Riyadh

From "send me samples of your work" in a DM, to a full portfolio and a booking button

Talal Awad is a photographer in Riyadh whose main work is restaurants, menus, brands and reels content. Before the site his work was scattered across social accounts, and any restaurant owner who wanted to see samples had to ask in a message and wait for a reply.

We built an Arabic site that opens with video on the home page, followed by the three services, a portfolio where every project carries its story and its shots, and booking and WhatsApp buttons at the points where a client makes their decision.

What we did

  • An Arabic right-to-left interface
  • Built in PHP
  • A filtered portfolio with a page per project
  • A dedicated page for each service
  • A dashboard for content and client messages
  • Technical SEO and structured data

Talal adds projects, photographs and articles himself from a dashboard, and messages from the contact form collect in one inbox.

Images load in modern formats and in stages as you move down the page, so a gallery holding dozens of photographs stays light on a phone.

Younex designed and delivered a professional website for the Saudi photographer Talal Awad, who specialises in cinematic photography for restaurants and brands in Riyadh. The project's challenge was building a visual portfolio worthy of 8K-quality images, without those high-resolution images weighing down browsing speed. We relied on a custom PHP core and a performance-optimised image gallery based on progressive loading and modern image formats, and came out with a site that opens in under two seconds on mobile, presents Talal's work with its full colour detail, and turns the visitor into a client through a clear and direct booking path. The result is a site that sells professionalism before it displays it.

Project overview

Talal Awad is not merely a photographer who takes pictures but a maker of visual narratives who turns a dish in a restaurant or a corner of an office into a cinematic scene with a story. When he came to us at Younex, he had a large archive of high-quality work and a strong reputation in the Riyadh market, but he lacked a digital front reflecting that level. His work was scattered across social media accounts, and every new client would ask for a "portfolio" through private messages, which weakens the professional image and slows the client's decision cycle. The goal was clear: to build one digital platform bringing together Talal's visual identity, presenting his work at the highest possible quality, and turning the passing browser into an actual booking.

We designed the site to serve as a complete digital studio. The home page opens with a captivating visual scene introducing the visitor to Talal's style within seconds, then flows into an organised journey through his three core services — restaurant and menu photography, brand and business photography, and digital content and reels production — arriving at the portfolio that forms the heart of the site, then the client testimonials section, then an explicit invitation to get in touch and book. Every section is built Arabic-first, with a design respecting right-to-left reading, and with a cinematic visual rhythm in keeping with the nature of the work. The site does not only present images; it tells the story of a photographer who knows how to make every frame speak.

We looked at the project as an investment in Talal's personal brand, not merely a technical expense. The professional photographer today competes in a market crowded with talent, and what distinguishes them is not only the quality of their lens but their ability to present themselves in a way that inspires confidence before they speak to the client. So we wanted the site to serve as the "silent first interview" that takes place between Talal and any prospective client; the visitor enters and feels within seconds that they are dealing with a professional of the highest order, so their expectations shift even before seeing prices. This first impression is what raises the perceived value of the service, and makes the client ready to invest in professional photography rather than looking for the cheapest option. We built every detail on the site — from loading speed to the order of the sections to the tone of the text — in service of this strategic goal.

The client and the sector

Talal Awad is a professional photographer based in Riyadh with more than ten years of experience in commercial and cinematic photography. His precise specialism lies in photographing restaurants, cafés and brands, a highly competitive sector in the Saudi market, where the professional image has become an essential condition for any restaurant or business wanting to stand out on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and Google Maps. His clients are the owners of restaurants, cafés and commercial businesses who recognise that image quality translates directly into higher engagement and greater sales. Talal relies on the latest professional equipment — Sony A7R V cameras reaching 8K resolution, G-Master macro lenses, and Profoto lighting systems — to ensure that every detail in the image appears with the greatest possible clarity.

This sector imposes a double challenge on any website representing it: on one hand, the images must be presented at the highest quality because they are the product itself and the proof of skill; and on the other hand, the client audience in the Gulf mostly browses via mobile on networks of varying speed, and will not tolerate a slow site however beautiful its images. Understanding this equation was the starting point in Younex's design for the project, since a photographer's portfolio is meaningless if its images destroy the visitor's experience instead of impressing them.

Add to this that the restaurant photography market in Saudi Arabia is seeing accelerating growth driven by the flourishing of the hospitality sector and the transformation of restaurants into destinations people visit for the visual experience as much as for the food. Restaurant owners now recognise that the professional image on Google Maps and social media accounts is what settles the visitor's decision between one restaurant and another. This growing awareness has raised the ceiling of competition among photographers, and made a strong digital presence a requirement rather than a luxury. Talal's client is not merely someone looking for "who takes pictures" but a business owner wanting a visual partner who understands how an image translates into engagement and sales, and who looks for tangible proof of the photographer's ability before entrusting them with their brand's identity. From there the site's task was to provide this proof in the finest presentation and the fastest performance at once.

The challenge

The central challenge was achieving the difficult balance between maximum visual quality and high technical performance. The original images Talal takes reach tens of megabytes in size, and presenting them as they are on the web means a site that takes an eternity to load, something entirely unacceptable in an age where a visitor's patience is measured in seconds. Alongside that, a set of interconnected challenges emerged:

  • Presenting dozens of high-resolution images in one gallery without the page's load time exceeding acceptable limits on mobile.
  • Preserving the colour accuracy and fine detail that distinguish Talal's work, since any excessive compression kills the value of a professional image.
  • Building a browsing structure allowing the visitor to move smoothly between the different work categories (restaurants, brands, digital content).
  • Bringing out the photographer's cinematic identity through a design that does not settle for displaying images but creates a complete visual experience.
  • A fully responsive design working perfectly on mobile, tablet and desktop screens.
  • Preparing the site for search engines so it appears when clients search for a professional photographer in Riyadh and Saudi Arabia.
  • Providing a clear booking path turning admiration for the work into actual contact and a service request.

The solution Younex delivered

Younex built the site on a custom PHP core giving complete flexibility in controlling how images are processed and presented, away from ready-made templates that impose their own constraints. The essence of the solution was engineering a performance-optimised image gallery that processes each image on upload, generating several versions at different sizes (responsive images), and serving the visitor the version most suited to their screen size and network speed. We adopted modern image formats such as WebP, which reduce file size considerably while preserving visual quality, while keeping fallbacks in traditional formats to guarantee compatibility with every browser. To that we added lazy loading, so that an image is only loaded as it approaches the visitor's field of view, and the site begins to appear immediately instead of waiting for the whole gallery to load.

At the experience level, we designed the solution to serve the goal of conversion and not merely display. What we delivered included:

  • A portfolio divided into clear categories with the ability to open each image at full size in an elegant viewer (lightbox) that brings out the detail.
  • A back-end image management system letting Talal add and organise new projects without needing a developer.
  • Intelligent image compression balancing file size against display quality automatically on every upload.
  • Service sections designed as sales pages explaining the value before the price.
  • A client testimonials section building trust through genuine testimonials from restaurants and brands Talal has worked with.
  • Booking buttons and direct WhatsApp contact distributed intelligently at the decision points.
  • A complete technical SEO structure covering meta tags and structured Schema data for the photographer and his work.

We made sure that every technical choice on the site sprang from a clear goal and not from a desire to show off technology. The choice of custom PHP came to give us complete freedom in controlling the image processing pipeline, the beating heart of a photographer's site performance, instead of being tied to the constraints of ready-made templates that impose their own way of handling media. Writing the front end in native JavaScript without heavy frameworks kept the page size light and the response time fast, which directly serves the visitor's experience on mobile. And even the admin panel was designed with the logic of "the photographer, not the programmer", so we made it intuitive enough for Talal to manage his digital asset through it with complete confidence. This harmony between technical decisions and commercial goals is what distinguishes the Younex approach; we do not build sites that merely impress technically but sites that work efficiently in the service of our clients' growth.

How the project ran

  1. Discovery and analysis: sessions with Talal to understand his visual identity, his audience and his goals for the site, and analysing the nature of his work and the size of his images.
  2. Information architecture: designing the site map and defining the sections and categories and the visitor's path from arrival to booking.
  3. Visual design: building a cinematic digital identity and design prototypes for the main pages in a way that serves bringing out the images.
  4. Core development: programming the back end in PHP and building the image processing system and the generation of responsive versions.
  5. Building the gallery: developing the portfolio with lazy loading, modern image formats and the full-size viewer.
  6. Admin panel: building the content management system for uploading and organising the work independently.
  7. Performance and SEO: tuning loading speed, adding Schema data, meta tags and the sitemap.
  8. Testing and launch: comprehensive checks across devices and browsers, security tests, then publication and follow-up.

User experience and design

We set out in designing the user experience from the principle that a visitor to a photographer's site wants to "see" before they "read". So we made the image the hero on every page, with considered white space giving each piece its due for contemplation, and visual spacing preventing the crowding that kills the sense of quality. We chose a calm, neutral colour palette making the colours of the images themselves the source of vitality, so the design does not compete with the content but serves it. The browsing motion was designed to be cinematic and flowing, with soft transitions and a gradual appearance of elements on scroll giving the site a sense of life without an excess that distracts.

At the mobile level we gave particular attention because the majority of Talal's audience in the Gulf market browses from their phone. We made the gallery work smoothly by touch, kept the booking and contact buttons always within thumb's reach, and made the text size comfortable to read without zooming. All these small details combine to leave a single impression on the visitor: that they are dealing with a professional who cares about detail, the same impression Talal wants to leave in his images.

We also paid attention to the rhythm of discovering the work within the gallery. We arranged the images so that the journey begins with the strongest pieces that seize attention and fix the impression, then the rest of the work is distributed with a variety that prevents monotony and keeps the visitor moving between a restaurant, a brand and digital content. When the visitor clicks an image, the full-size viewer opens it with a soft transition isolating the image from the page's noise and giving it the whole screen, so the visitor has a moment of pure contemplation with the piece exactly as if they were leafing through a fine printed portfolio. These touches, which may seem like minor details, are what separate a site that "displays images" from a site that "delivers an experience", and the difference between them is the difference between a visitor who passes by quickly and a visitor who stops, admires, and then gets in touch.

Results and impact

After the site launched, Talal Awad had a single digital front to direct every prospective client to instead of sending work by hand, which raised his professional image and accelerated clients' decision cycle. The optimised gallery enabled him to present his work at the highest quality without any visitor complaining about the site's speed, since the fast loading target on mobile was achieved. More importantly, the site turned from a mere "business card" into an actual sales tool, where the visitor moves along a logical path from admiring the work to the services section to the client testimonials and then the booking button, so the likelihood of converting them into a client rises. The technical search engine optimisation also established a sustainable digital presence bringing in new enquiries continuously without full reliance on paid advertising.

In the longer term, the site gave Talal a digital asset he fully owns and controls, away from the fluctuations of social platform algorithms that can cut the reach of his posts overnight. He can now direct his advertising campaigns to landing pages designed for conversion rather than a social account, share one professional link in his signature, his messages and his card, and build cumulative credibility with every new project he adds to his gallery himself. The self-service admin panel means the site grows with the growth of Talal's business without a recurring technical cost, so whenever he completes a striking project he adds it immediately to strengthen his portfolio. With that the project was not a momentary solution but an investment in a digital infrastructure serving Talal's professional career for years to come, and placing him in an advanced competitive position within a market increasingly aware of the value of the professional image.

Frequently asked questions

Does presenting high-resolution images affect the site's speed?

No, because we do not present the heavy original image as it is. Our system generates multiple versions of each image at different sizes in modern formats such as WebP, and serves the visitor the version most suited to their device and network, with lazy loading that defers loading images not yet visible, so the speed stays high despite the display quality.

Can the photographer add his work himself without a developer?

Yes. We provided the site with a custom content management panel allowing new images to be uploaded, organised into categories, deleted and reordered, with automatic image processing on upload, so the gallery stays alive and current without technical intervention.

Is the site compatible with mobile?

The site is fully responsive and designed with a mobile-first approach, because the majority of photographers' audiences in the Gulf browse from their phones. The gallery works smoothly by touch, the buttons are within reach, and the performance is tuned specifically for mobile networks.

How does the site turn visitors into clients?

We designed the visitor's path to lead them from admiring the work to understanding the services and their value, then to client testimonials that build trust, arriving at booking buttons and direct WhatsApp contact distributed at the decision points, so turning admiration into a service request is easy.

Is the site prepared for search engines?

Yes. We carried out comprehensive technical optimisation covering meta tags, structured Schema data specific to photographers and their work, a sitemap and friendly URLs, which raises the site's visibility when clients search for a professional photographer in Riyadh and Saudi Arabia.

What technologies was the site built with?

The site was built on a custom PHP core in the back end, with a front end in native HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and an advanced image processing system. This custom foundation gives complete flexibility in controlling performance and appearance away from the constraints of ready-made templates.

How long does a similar site take to deliver with Younex?

The duration varies with the size of the gallery and the requirements, but it usually ranges between two and four weeks covering discovery, design, development, testing and launch. We commit to a clear timetable agreed with the client in advance.
